Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I am writing this column as I sit by the ocean at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It is another beautiful day in a series of 80 degree, low humidity days. From all I can gather has been less than pleasant at home with less than comfortable temperatures and humidity. Oh well, we always have the weather to complain about! I hear that Abby is getting along well with Helena and her dog Belle. Hope they take some rests from non-stop playing! One of the things about the Gospels that always makes me marvel is how Jesus takes the very ordinary and elevates it to the extraordinary: a simple manger becomes the birthplace of God; wheat and mustard seeds become sign of the Kingdom of God; water becomes wine at Cana; and of course the everyday habit of eating and drinking become the Body and Blood of Christ. It always reminds me that it is in the very ordinary daily lives that each of us lives that God chooses to visit His people as today s Gospel tells us. For no one of us is ordinary in the eyes of God. We are His chosen, beloved in whom He is well pleased. Despite our flaws and failures, we are His children and He continues to shower us with His love each day. Love is what transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary! HUDSON, MA FR. REL. ED. REMINDERS: Registrations due by Saturday, June 15! Grades K-Confirmation are due by then. Go to the web site for a quick and easy form and payment. New First Grade Parents, if you have not picked up your packet, please do so as soon as possible! God Bless! When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, Do not weep. He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, Young man, I tell you, arise! The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. - Lk 7: Readings for the Week of June 9, 2013 Sunday: 1 Kgs 17:17-24/Gal 1:11-19/Lk 7:11-17 Monday: 2 Cor 1:1-7/Mt 5:1-12 Tuesday: Acts 11:21b-26; 13:1-3/Mt 5:13-16 Wednesday: 2 Cor 3:4-11/Mt 5:17-19 Thursday: 2 Cor 3:15--4:1, 3-6/Mt 5:20-26 Friday: 2 Cor 4:7-15/Mt 5:27-32 Saturday: 2 Cor 5:14-21/Mt 5:33-37 Next Sunday: 2 Sm 12:7-10, 13/Gal 2:16, Lk 7:36--8:3 or 7:36-50 Liturgical Publications Inc TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME RELIGIOUS EDUCATION HOW CAN I HELP YOU? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is an ongoing process of formation for people who are thinking about becoming members of the Catholic Church. Through a process of inquiry, learning, prayer and reflection one learns what it means to become a Catholic Christian. Then one is able to make an informed choice. If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, perhaps now is a good time to explore the possibility. If you would like more information, contact Sheila Mahoney at or Carmen Giombetti, Pastoral Associate at x310. ADULT CONFIRMATION For those adults who wish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, the parish will be offering preparation sessions beginning in the fall. If you are interested, would like more information and are over the age of 18 kindly call Carmen Giombetti at (978) x310 at the parish center or or contact Sheila Mahoney at (978) JUNE 9, 2013 MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH NURSE JUNE IS MEN S HEALTH MONTH Did you know that men tend to visit their doctor less often than women and therefore fail to detect many diseases at an early stage? Recognizing and preventing men s health problems is not just a man s issue. When men neglect their health, it affects their families, their community and their employers. Statistics tell the story: Men die, on the average, six years younger than women. They have a higher fatality rate than women for the 10 leading causes of death. They are 40% more likely to die of colorectal cancer, 90% more likely to die of lung cancer, twice as likely to die of heart disease, 50% more likely to die of cancer, more likely to die from diabetes and kidney disease, twice as likely to die from chronic liver disease and 80% of suicide deaths are men. These are staggering statistics. The best chances of avoiding diseases that afflict men are prevention, self-examination and regular physician visits. Regular screening can catch many diseases at an early stage, when treatment is most likely to be successful. So please during this month that we honor our fathers heighten their and your awareness of preventable health problems and encourage our fathers, husbands, sons, brothers and uncles.men and boys of all ages to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for diseases and injuries. For further information go to and God please bless all the males in our lives. PARISH PHOTO DIRECTORY We are getting ready to create a new parish directory and we need you to help make it complete! If you would like to volunteer please contact Helena Siciliano at x A PRAYER FOR FATHER S DAY Let us praise those fathers who try to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a good father. Let us praise those fathers who by their own account were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children. Let us praise those fathers who, despise divorce, have remained in their children s lives. Let us praise those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing. Let us praise those fathers, who as stepfathers, freely chose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their stepchildren s love and respect. Let us pray for those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart. Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own. Let us praise those men who have fathered us in their role as mentors and guides. Let us praise those men who are about to become fathers; may they find delight in their children. And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us. Amen! BOSTON CATHOLIC APPEAL Thank you to all who have joined our parish campaign to support the 2013 Catholic Appeal. This is 81% of our goal and if we don t reach the goal that has been set for our parish; St. Michael will have to pay the balance from parish funds. You can make a pledge by going to the website Thank you for your prayers and support of this important effort. FATIMA DAY CELEBRATION When: Thursday, June 13 th ; 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Where: Fatima Shrine-Holliston, MA Celebrant: Rev. Edward M. Riley All are welcome. Sunday Throughout the Week: TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SHARING THE GOSPEL Imagine you fell from the jungle gym at the school playground. You would not even need to ask for help. If you were so hurt that you could barely walk or breathe, your teacher would see you and come running. The widow in today's Gospel story did not need to ask Jesus for help. Jesus saw her pain and came running to help her. Jesus sees when you are in pain, too, and he always comes to help you, too. PRAYER Jesus, I thank you for raising the widow's son to life. I know that you are with me, too, when I am sad or hurt. SOMETHING TO DRAW Draw a picture of Jesus hugging you when you are sad.
