WISCONSIN GRAZING ACTIVITIES RESOURCE LIST 2013 Kristina L. Hemstead¹ Nadia B. Alber² Richard L. Cates, Jr.³ This publication is a joint effort of: The Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS) is a research center for sustainable agriculture in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison. CIAS fosters multidisciplinary inquiry and supports a range of research, curriculum, and program development projects. It brings together university faculty, farmers, policy makers and others to study relationships between farming practices, farm profitability, the environment and rural vitality. Go to or call for more information. The Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers (WSBDF) is a training program within CIAS and the Farm and Industry Short Course at the UW- Madison. The WSBDF offers training to individuals interested in dairy and livestock farming with a particular emphasis on grazing as a means to enter farming as a career. This document is meant to be used within the University of Wisconsin System as a way to improve statewide research efforts by focusing on gaps of knowledge and research on grazing in Wisconsin. Additionally, this publication may be useful to individuals active in the managed grazing community. This resource will be available online at ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS With sincere thanks and appreciation to: Rhonda Gildersleeve (UW-Extension) and Laura Paine (Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection), who were instrumental in supplying lists of current grazing activities in Wisconsin. They also reviewed previously collected grazing resources. Brian Pillsbury (USDA NRCS) and Rhonda Gildersleeve, who provided an updated list of various Resource, Conservation and Development Councils (RC&Ds). Jennifer Taylor, formerly of the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems and the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers, who helped to identify individuals to contact regarding this statewide grazing information database as well as consolidate the resource list. 1 Kristina Hemstead compiled these resources as a Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS) Project Assistant while completing her Master s degree in Agroecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has a background in organic dairy farming and bachelor s degrees in History and Agronomy from the. Her future focus is in farmer education and outreach to help create and sustain viable farming communities. Presently, she is employed by Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative in La Farge, WI. 2 Nadia B.
