Fees: -$80 until July 10 -$125 July $250 July 28 and later RECRUITMENT REGISTRATION Submit online registration Submit electronic file of high school transcript and a photograph with registration Greek Life will communicate with students after registration Greek Life will provide each sorority with application Alumnae may send recommendation Anything sent in directly by the potential member will be discarded RECRUITMENT PROCESS August 7-13, 2016 Kickoff evening of Saturday, August 6 Students stay in their apartments or residence hall. Arrange move-in August 5 or earlier. Schedule, parking plan, and what to wear are on our website and social media. Parents should not attend recruitment. Parents. Admittance with wristbands only. PI CHIS Are 110 disaffiliated sorority members Have trained since February Have groups of about 12 potential members Will handle any bad news properly FIRST YEAR OF MEMBERSHIP Is the most demanding Includes new member meetings, chapter meetings, pep rallies, study hours, socials Includes a big sister paired with each new member Can also provide structure as new members adjust Does not include hazing FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS First year costs average $2,000 Each year after that averages $1,800 Estimates include $300 Facility Fee Not including pictures, t-shirts, etc. Some sororities charge all money once a semester and others bill members each month based on activity HOUSING During Recruitment, a potential member provides her own place to live (residence hall, apartment ) As a first year member, she will live where she has already agreed to live. Each sorority has a section of apartment style units in The Village. All members are expected to live there at least one year. A sorority member should not sign a lease agreement until she is certain she is not required to live on her sorority s hall the following year. LEGACIES Sororities want to know which potential members are their legacies. No woman has to choose the sorority she is a legacy to. No sorority is required to choose their legacies. In 2015, over 2,000 legacy relationships were reported The average sorority in had 95 legacies in recruitment last year, with a high of 202. A relative should not expect a phone call from her sorority. WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT LEGACIES? In 2015, 58% of our potential members were legacies About 30% of them pledged to their legacy group. It s 18% of the overall pool. RECOMMENDATIONS Like extra credit. You can work on them, but don t have to. Chapters place differing levels of importance on them. Must be sent in by an alumna member of that sorority, not necessarily from Auburn The alumna can write a letter, but should also include her sorority s form, if possible. The potential member should provide the alumna with a picture and resume to forward as well as a stamped, addressed envelope. Send a thank-you note later. If a potential member has not secured a recommendation to a sorority, she should not send out a packet about herself anyway. If a sorority requires a recommendation to pledge someone, they can find her one. Time and place brings changes to recruitment. IN-STATE vs. OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS Women in sorority recruitment Women receiving bids to sororities OVERALL STATISTICS % of potential members who registered for recruitment joined at the end of the week OVERALL STATISTICS % were released.06% of these were released on Bid Day (n=19) OVERALL STATISTICS Withdrawals are 3.10% of the pool. Mostly after not receiving a desired invitation. OVERALL STATISTICS % divided by 17 is 5.44% per sorority How important are academics? But, an outstanding potential member can count on being asked to join every sorority, right? From 2013 to % of our potential members earned a 4.0 GPA or better in high school. 74% Earned other academic honors and awards. Maybe leadership gives you an edge? From 2013 to % Were part of Student Government 57% Led in other organizations Perhaps it s about poise, appearance, and personality? From 2013 to % Were chosen by peers as class favorites, homecoming courts or prom courts 18% Won prizes in pageants or were chosen for school and city hostess groups What about special interests and talents? From 2013 to % Athletics 30% Performing arts 31% Cheer/dance team 58% Voluntary service DON T BE INTIMIDATED Not every potential member meets all of those criteria. The average applicant met 4 of these ten criteria. In fact, women who meet none of those criteria participate in recruitment and happily join each year. A mix of traits exists in each of our members and each of these traits (and more) can be found in each of our sororities. The idea that outstanding women are rare at Auburn and can be found only in one or two sororities is incorrect. OVERALL STATISTICS * Again, 92.57% of our participants typically join Now is the time for a potential member to decide whether she wants to be a member of a particular sorority or a sorority member! Be sure to follow us on and check us out on Facebook RULES & REGULATIONS Inappropriate contact can come from alumnae, chapter members, and the mothers of members. The chapter can face sanctions, but so can potential members found willingly participating in inappropriate activities. If someone will bend the rules to attract you, they are probably doing it for others as well. No one can offer any guarantees. There should be no meetings or parties, except those held by official Alumnae Panhellenic Groups. RULES & REGULATIONS You should not be contacted by strangers about recruitment. Before and during recruitment, a potential member should not receive any cards, letters, flowers, gifts, be entertained by others, or have money spent on her that she would not otherwise receive. From August 5-16 only, there is to be no contact between a potential member and her sorority friends. They will all be busy with recruitment anyway. This summer, a potential member can still maintain the friendships she has with sorority members, as long as she is not being actively recruited by her friend.
