  • 2. <ul><li>Hadrian´s wall was a defensive fortification in northern England. </li></ul><ul><li>The emperor Hadrian built the wall in 122 AD, when Romans took over Britain and the country became rich, with farms and trade . </li></ul><ul><li>The richness attracted northern tribes (the Picts), who lived in Scotland (North of Britain).   • 7. <ul><li>The soldiers who patrolled the wall lived in barracks in the milecastles.  </li></ul><ul><li>In front of Hadrian's Wall there was a ditch , that acted as an extra defense. </li></ul><ul><li>A road was built b ehind the wall. It is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England, where it is often known simply as the Roman Wall , or the Wall . It was made a UNESCO World Heritage in 1987. </li></ul><ul><li>English government describes the Hadrian's wall as &quot;the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain&quot;. </li></ul>
