Users with implanted electronic equipment, such as pacemakers and intracardiac defibrillators, must not use the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT. Pregnant women should not use the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT during the first trimester, and should always consult a doctor, midwife or physiotherapist prior to use. Do not stimulate on the front or sides of the neck, since a drop in blood pressure can occur. Do not use the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT if you are connected to high-frequency surgical equipment, since this may cause burn injuries on the skin under the electrodes, as well as problems with the stimulator. Do not use the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT in the direct vicinity of shortwave or microwave equipment (e.g. mobile phones), since this may affect the output power of the stimulator. Keep out of reach from children. Note The stimulator should only be used with skin electrodes intended for nerve and muscle stimulation. See electrode package for instructions of use. The electrodes should only be placed on healthy skin. Avoid skin irritation by ensuring good contact between electrodes and skin. Hypersensitivity can occur in rare cases. If skin irritation should occur, stimulation with the CEFAR MYO XT/ CEFAR ACTIV XT should be temporarily discontinued. If condition persists, seek medical advice. Switch off stimulation before removing the electrodes from the skin. If an electrode comes off, shut off the stimulation before picking it up. Getting electrical stimulation through the fingers is unpleasant but not harmful. Exercise caution when using electrodes smaller than 14 cm², as the current density in some cases exceeds 2 ma rms/cm² and increases risk for burn injuries. Be careful with stimulating in the heart region. CEFAR Medical AB does not take any responsibility for any electrode placements other than recommended. Muscle soreness may occur after stimulation with CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT, but usually disappears within a week. Only Cefar accessories should be used with the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT. Use the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT only as stated in the user s guide. Inspect the equipment prior to use. Never use more than one stimulator at the time. Never open the battery lid during stimulation. The stimulator meets the requirements of MDD 93/42/EEC, including the EMC requirements. This, however, is no guarantee that the equipment will not be affected by electromagnetic disturbances. If the stimulator is not used for some time (approximately 3 months), the non-rechargeable batteries should be removed from the stimulator. STARTING THE STIMULATION / FUNCTIONS On-off button. Press P again when you want to resume the session. The program picks up where it left off. If the stimulator has been paused for more than five minutes, it switches off automatically to spare the battery. Most of the NMES programs have intermittent stimulation i.e. the stimulation changes between stimulation and rest periods. Some of these programs offer active rest i.e. stimulation during rest time. The amplitude drops with 50 % the first time the program switches to active rest. Adjust the amplitude until muscle vibrations occur. You can increase or decrease the amplitude at any time during the rest period. The programs switch automatically between stimulation and rest. The amplitude graph blinks during rest. Ten seconds after you set the amplitude, the key lock is activated so that no unintentional changes can be made. appears in the display. To deactivate the key lock, press. CEFAR EASY TOUCH automatic amplitude settings To set the amplitude automatically: 1. Place the electrodes on the muscle you want to train and select a program. 2. Press AUTO once for channel 1. TEST begins blinking. 3. When you get a visible muscular response to the current, press AUTO again. If you press too late, or want to start again for any reason, press and hold AUTO for two seconds. 4. Press AUTO once for channel 2. TEST begins blinking. 5. When you get a visible muscular response to the current, press AUTO again. If you press too late, or want to start again for any reason, press and hold AUTO for two seconds. 6. The recommended amplitude will be set automatically for both channels and the program will start. If you only want to use one channel, follow steps 1 3 above, then wait a few seconds for the right amplitude to be set. Even if you use automatic amplitude settings, you can raise or lower the amplitude at any time by pressing or until the stimulation feels pleasant. Remember that you have now left the automatic amplitude setting. THE PROGRAMS The CEFAR MYO XT and CEFAR ACTIV XT have preset programs for SPORT, FITNESS and WELLNESS. The display illustrates each type of program with a symbol: Each program also has a number, shown at the bottom right of the display. See the program numbers in the program overview for an explanation (Page 8). The program levels are shown in the display. Maximum force 1 is lighter than Maximum force 3. Program time Warm up Training Force AUTO SPORT SET REP AUTO Recovery Massage Pain relief Program level Program number The programs consist of sets and reps, just like regular muscle training principles CEFAR EASY TRAINING. At the top of the display, you see how many sets a program contains and how many reps each set has. There is a pause between each set. The pause time is counted down in the display, so you know when the next set begins. 7 Program overview for the CEFAR MYO XT Program type SPORT Lower body SPORT Recovery 1. Recovery 2. You can keep using the same batteries as long as the stimulation feels the same. You know it s time to charge or replace the batteries when the stimulation is weaker than usual or the stimulator stops working. Note: Never try to charge non-rechargeable batteries. They may explode. To change batteries: first switch off the stimulator. Remove the battery cover. Remove the batteries. Make sure that the new batteries are installed in the correct position (match up the + and symbols). Always dispose of batteries properly. Full battery Time to replace/recharge You can charge rechargeable batteries in the stimulator with an external charger unit; contact your dealer or Cefar. CARE INSTRUCTIONS Taking care of and cleaning the CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT equipment is simple, provided the following instructions are observed: Always keep the stimulator and accessories in the original case when not in use. Never expose the stimulator to water. Wipe it off with a damp cloth if necessary. The cords are best preserved if left attached to the stimulator between sessions. Do not jerk cords or connections. TROUBLESHOOTING Stimulation doesn t feel the way it usually does Make sure all settings are correct and that the electrodes are positioned correctly. Stimulation is uncomfortable Your skin is irritated. For skin-care advice, see the Precautionary measures section. The electrodes are too old and need to be replaced. The current is weak or nonexistent Check if the batteries need charging/replacing. See the Batteries section. Check that the electrodes are not touching. If the closed circuit is broken, for example if a cord is broken, the current to that channel switches off automatically. Excessive resistance is indicated by the amplitude dropping to 0 ma and being displayed. Correct the problem and restart by setting the amplitude. The program picks up where it left off. The electrodes are too old and need to be replaced. You should turn in your CEFAR MYO XT or CEFAR ACTIV XT for service once a year. Service should be done by Cefar or one of Cefar s distributors. 11 12 TECHNICAL DATA The CEFAR MYO XT/CEFAR ACTIV XT is an electric muscle stimulator with two channels, intended for muscle training.
