Any national building regulation not specifically referred to is considered to be outside the scope of this certificate and must be applied by the local authority in the normal manner. Page 6 of 11 Table 1: Compliance with the National Building Regulations Aspects of performance Fitness-forpurpose of materials used Opinion of Agrément South Africa The quality and suitability of the materials are satisfactory. National Building Regulations satisfied The materials used in the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating are deemed to satisfy the requirements of regulation A13 (1) (a) Part A: Administration. Behaviour in fire Satisfactory. The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is regarded as non-combustible when applied in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions to the substrates listed. SANS The application of the National Building Regulations The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is deemed to satisfy the requirements of regulation T1 (d), Part T: Fire protection, as regards the spread of fire and generation of smoke. Deemed-to-satisfy rule TT5.2 (c), SANS has been met. Resistance to water penetration Satisfactory Deemed-to-satisfy rule KK17, Part K: Walls, has been met. Table 2: Assessment Aspects of performance Opinion of Agrément South Africa Explanatory notes Bond Strength Satisfactory Tested in accordance with the method described in the British Board of Agre ment: Method of Assessment and Testing: MOAT N0 33: 1986 MOAT No 33: 1986 The assessment of Masonry Coatings Surface preparation and application are important and must be carried out in accordance with Part 3 of this certificate. Page 7 of 11 Table 2: Assessment (continued) Durability Satisfactory, where the coating system is applied to properly prepared wall surfaces of the type specified on page 1. The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating should perform satisfactorily when applied properly. The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is more flexible than an ordinary acrylic paint and can accommodate minor movement of the substrate without cracking. The coating system can withstand frequent washing with water without deterioration, provided that a soft brush or broom is used. This assessment relates to resistance to weathering. Mechanical damage or frequent abrasion to the top coat may result in a requirement for recoating at more frequent intervals. Colour Stability Satisfactory Agrément s opinion is based on knowledge of the materials and on tests conducted to determine colour stability. Samples of the product were exposed to UV light in an accelerated weathering apparatus for 1000 hours. No colour changes, chalking or other defects were detected on the samples. Resistance to abrasion The resistance to abrasion of the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is satisfactory. Agre ment s assessment is based on the inspection of samples coated with this coating system and on the results of tests in accordance with ASTM D ASTM D : Scrub resistance of Interior Latex Flat Wall Paints. Water-vapour permeability Satisfactory The coating system was tested to be sufficiently water-vapour permeable not to cause interstitial condensation in the wall. Quality Management System The certificate holder s quality system complies with Agre ment South Africa s requirements that are based on SANS When properly implemented, the quality management system will ensure that the quality of the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is consistently maintained. SANS 9001 Quality management systems Requirements Page 8 of 11 PART 3: TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION General description The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is a two-coat application for use in all regions of South Africa on sound, suitably prepared, external and internal surfaces as follows: sand-cement plaster sand-cement bagged finishes the above surfaces previously painted with PVA paint prepared gypsum and fibre cement boards The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is a ready-touse, flexible acrylic emulsion wall coating. It is available in 20 different colours and packed in 20 litre containers. It needs to be thoroughly stirred on site before application. It is applied using a block brush or a sheep-skin roller. Manufacture The manufacture of the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is a batch process involving the mixing of approved raw material in mixing and milling tanks under the supervision of the production manager. The raw materials are loaded into a dispersion vessel and mixed according to a batch card formulation and manufacturing instructions. Once the batch is completed, samples of the batch are tested in a quality control laboratory according to specified limits. Upon final approval, the batch is filled in clearly marked 20lt containers labelled with a unique batch number. Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating (all 20 colours) is manufactured to order should the order be large enough. Application of coating General Prominent Paints (Pty) Ltd will provide onsite applicator training on the application of the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating. Approved applicators can be issued with a certificate of competence once training is completed. The certificate holder can also deploy demonstration teams on each site, prior to commencement of a project. These teams inspect and can provide on-site training on the application of the waterproofing wall coating. They also carry out regular visits during the course of each project, for quality control. Page 9 of 11 Surface preparation Potable water: The water should be clean and preferably drinkable. Water that may be made potable by boiling may be used in its natural state. All wall surfaces must be checked to ensure that they are sound, not friable and free of dust, dirt, oil, lichen and loose material. They must be wire-brushed and washed down where necessary. Any organic growth must be removed and spores killed by scrubbing with ProGold Fungal Wash as per the technical data sheet. Dead growth must be removed and the surface rinsed well with potable water. Surfaces previously treated with PVA paint are to be scraped and/ or high pressure water washed to remove any loose material and wire-brushed and washed down to provide a sound base before application of the first coat. Prominent Paints technical field services need to validate if the surface preparation is satisfactory for a direct application. A primer coat may be incorporated depending on the surface condition after preparation on previously painted surfaces. Application The surface to be coated must be completely dry with a moisture content of 15% or lower prior to application of the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating and any imperfections filled with a suitable filler. All substrate imperfections to be filled with Pro-Gold All Purpose Crack Filler, allowed to dry, sanded to a smooth finish with P80 sandpaper or similar and dust to be removed. The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is thoroughly stirred on site for 3 minutes with a flat paddle before application. No water is to be added. Outside temperature should be between 5 C and 40 C with relative humidity of below 85%. The same batch number between the first and second coat should be used on a wall to prevent colour variation and spot touch-ups are not recommended. The minimum time allowed between the coats is 4 hours. The coating can be applied using a sheep skin roller or block brush at a rate of 5 m 2 per litre per coat. A 20 litre container of the Prominent Paint coating will cover approximately 100 m 2 per coat, depending on the surface characteristics (texture and porosity) of the wall surface. Storage and shelf life The Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating is available in 20 litre containers. The containers must be stored away from heat, sun and severe cold. The containers must not be opened until the product is to be applied. Page 10 of 11 The shelf life of the Prominent Paints Waterproofing Wall Coating, when kept in unopened containers, is 12 months. Each container is marked with the unique batch number of the product, shelf life, manufacturing and use-by date. Page 11 of 11
