Choosing the right surgeon is the single most important step in the quest for successful treatment. Though not everyone needs surgery, we believe that an understanding of the problem helps us in individualising the treatment.  Discussions around the natural history of the condition and obtaining the correct scans leads to the appreciation of the available treatment options. This provides a foundation of a good outcome.  Mr Jwalant S Mehta is a consultant spinal surgeon specialising in spinal deformity corrections and treatment of all spinal conditions. His is based in Birmingham at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Additionally, he has practising privileges with the BMI and Spire group About Mehta Spine

Some will require an operation.  The goals of surgery are to prevent curve progression, achieve truncal alignment and correct the deformity. The MRI is usually normal, hence the term Idiopathic (which means no known cause). Sometimes the MRI picks up an associated issue that needs a referral to another specialist.
